Tentative answer to this question: Could no distinguished (with, granted, the weakness of being pessimistic and realistic at the same time) American (see) in her/his right mind, female or male, seek to assume the thankless responsibility of being the president of an increasingly disunited, weirdly out-of-this-world, but (keep your fingers crossed) still "united" country (mostly thanks to, I would say, its -- let us hope not vanishing -- ideals on the rights of the individual and capacity for inclusive change), the United States of America?
