John BrownIn the Balkans as a US dip in the tragic mid-90s (for the Balkans, if not for the world) I had the pleasure/honor/torture (for them, the suffering peoples, for many centuries, of the Balkans?) of meeting many distinguished Montenegrins (btw, among the tallest people in Europe, according to some "studies"; no wonder the former Yugo had such great basketball team; I speculate), and I had the great opportunity of hearing their charmingly self-deprecating jokes about themselves -- among them, Montenegrins being accused by some of not being "hard-working'' (perhaps because they were so close to the Mediterranean?): "Why did the opposition win again in Montenegro? Because it offered everybody jobs ..."
